All Wales Convention |
The All Wales Convention is now up and running and this is your opportunity to join in the debate. The Convention has been set up by the First Minister and Deputy First Minister, to help raise awareness of how we are governed in Wales, and to kick-start a debate throughout Wales on the issue of lawmaking powers: should the National Assembly for Wales have primary law-making powers or not? The Convention’s job will be to: - Raise awareness and improve understanding of what the current arrangements for devolved government in Wales are. What do we currently have under Part 3 of the Government of Wales Act 2006, and what would a move to Part 4 mean? What are the implications for the future governance of Wales?
- Facilitate and stimulate a widespread, thorough and participative debate at all levels of Welsh society on the issue of primary law making powers.
- Assess the level of public support for giving the National Assembly for Wales primary law making powers.
- Report on its findings, with recommendations relevant to the holding of a referendum.
Our job is to help you to get informed and get engaged. We want as many people in Wales as possible to understand what the Convention is all about and take part in it, so that you can join in the big debate about devolved government and lawmaking in Wales. Your views are important to us! The debate about the Assembly’s powers is for everyone, as the use of the Assembly’s powers has the potential to affect everyone’s lives in areas as diverse as health, education, the environment, the economy, rural affairs, culture and sport – and that is far from the full list! There are a number of ways you can tell us what you think so far. We have a website, which has information about all of our activities, and ways in which to contact us – www.allwalesconvention.org. Or you can write to us at All Wales Convention, Pierhead Building, c/o National Assembly for Wales, Cardiff Bay CF99 1NA. Alternatively, you can join in the debate by joining our All Wales Convention group on Facebook. We’re also planning a number of meetings for the public from January onwards, so keep a look out for when we’re going to be in your area and come along to join in the discussions. Remember, the Convention is for everyone and this is your opportunity to get involved in the debate. Get informed, get engaged! |

Residents listening to a presentation on your annual rents and service charges We also had attendance from around 50 residents, all of which gave very good feedback about the event.
